Manual Lymph Drainage Therapy (MLD®)

Description

This is a specialized gentle massage technique using basic strokes in specific sequences that stimulate the lymphatic system. When combined with compression therapy, it is a very effective method to control certain types of lymphedema.

Benefits
  • When the lymphatic system is intact, MLD® can be used to stimulate a sluggish system.

  • MLD® is excellent for preparing the body and tissues for surgery, and can decrease recovery time after surgery.

  • For those who have a compromised lymphatic system (i.e. primary or secondary lymphedema), combined decongestive therapy (MLD® and bandaging) can help to keep the affected tissues healthy and keep the lymphedema under control.
